特定の二人の女の子のやりとりを、イラストレーションのような見た目で
連作としてマンガを連載するように、絵画作品として制作しています。
正反対な性格の二人の姿を通してをだれもがもっている、自身や相手に対する「幼さ」を親しみやすくコミカルに描きながらなんとなくうまくいかないながらも、なんだか一緒に暮らしている二人の「一瞬のコミュニケーション」を絵画に収めています。
作家ステートメント
画家、池田はるかは90年代から現在に至るまでの漫画、イラストレーション、ゲーム文化に影響を受けながら、大学時代には油彩を入り口に絵画表現を学びはじめ、漫画的表現をそのまま絵画に取り込むことを試みている。
ショートヘアーの子とロングヘアーの子、ふたりの女の子が織りなす
「ちょっとうまくいかないコミュニケーション」をモチーフとして、ふたりの女の子の箱庭のような世界観と、漫画のコマ的ともいえる連作を基盤に絵画を作るようになった。
コミュニケーションは概念的で自在に変化するため、ふたりの日常を連続して描き、
コミュニケーションの過程と、その一瞬を絵画にとどめるように描き記している。
作中のふたりは作品ごとにボケとツッコミのようなやりとりを繰り広げていて、
その姿は言い換えれば人間の「感性と理性」でもある。
この二つの要素は作品の中で仕掛けと反応を繰り返し、うまくいかずにすれ違い、ぶつかりあうが
どちらを失くしても生きてはいけない私達にとって、
その摩擦そのものが、時に必要不可欠なコミュニケーションの一つの形でもあるのだ。
このように反発し合う自身と他者の物語を寓話のように描きつつ、 私達のコミュニケーションを
女の子の幼い視点で捉えることにより、 誰しもが身近なものとして解釈できる画面を池田は追求している。 絵画に向かう姿勢として、たとえばそれは美術史のなかで、原始から繋がる願いや教訓をレリーフに刻むように、中世から続く聖書や神話を絵画として書き綴るように、
その趣に繋がる作品でありたいと池田は考えている。
現代のポップアートとして、 漫画的でありイラストレーション的でもある絵画を目指しながら、
作品によって私達の「うまくいかないコミュニケーション」を受け入れ、だからこそ諦めずに粘り強くふくらむ、他者との豊かな繋がりの夢を見続けている。

Haruka Ikeda, an artist influenced by manga, illustration, and game culture from the 1990s to the present, began studying painting expression through oil painting during her university years. She attempts to incorporate manga-like expressions directly into her paintings.
Using the motif of “slightly awkward communication” between two girls—one with short hair and one with long hair—she began creating paintings based on their miniature garden-like world and a series reminiscent of manga panels.
Since communication is conceptual and fluid, I depict their daily lives in sequence, capturing both the process of communication and its fleeting moments within the paintings.
Within the works, the two engage in exchanges reminiscent of the “boke and tsukkomi” dynamic, which can also be described as the human “sensibility and reason.”
These two elements repeatedly engage in setup and reaction within the work, often failing to connect, clashing, and missing each other.
Yet for us, who cannot live without either, this friction itself is sometimes an indispensable form of communication.
In this way, while depicting the story of oneself and others repelling each other like an allegory, Ikeda pursues a visual language accessible to everyone by capturing our communication through the young perspective of the girls.
As an approach to painting, Ikeda aspires for her work to resonate with traditions found throughout art history: like carving timeless wishes and lessons into reliefs from primal times, or like chronicling biblical and mythological narratives through painting since the Middle Ages.
As contemporary pop art, while aiming for paintings that are both manga-like and illustrative, each work embraces our “flawed communication.” Precisely because of this, it persistently dreams of rich connections with others—dreams that swell with tenacious resilience.
